An unused and overgrown corner of The Broughton Trust has been given a completely new purpose.
After a great deal of hard work clearing the space, we now have a fantastic new community growing area, complete with a polytunnel, raised planters and plenty of room for people to learn, create and spend time together.
The space is now home to our weekly Garden and Grow Club, where local people can meet others, learn practical gardening skills, enjoy being outdoors and perhaps discover a new hobby along the way. You do not need any previous gardening experience, just an interest in getting involved.
Who said learning needs four walls?
For us, learning can happen in a classroom, a kitchen, a garden or simply through sharing time and ideas with other people. This new space gives our community another welcoming place to build confidence, try something different and feel more connected.
The Garden and Grow Club takes place every Friday from 10am to 12pm at the Humphrey Booth Centre and is completely free to attend.
This is only the beginning. There is much more still to come, the garden will continue to grow and develop in response to the ideas, interests and needs of our community. The space is here for local people to use, shape and enjoy.
At The Broughton Trust, we are always looking for new ways to create opportunities close to home. Sometimes that begins with a conversation. Sometimes it begins by clearing an overlooked corner and planting the first seed.
