Community Programme

Supporting Groups

The Trust offers support to any new or existing group in East Salford. It can advise on constitutions and grant seeking, and works with Salford Community and Voluntary Services (CVS) and Greater Manchester Council for Voluntary Organisations (GMCVO) to promote training and development opportunities. It has worked on environmental improvement schemes, lantern festivals, International Women's Day, and Family Days in local parks.

Active Citizens

The Trust is an active member of the British Council's Active Citizens Programme and in 2011 facilitated an exchange between a group of ten residents and ten students from the University of Haifa in Israel. Over twenty residents from a number of groups including Higher Broughton Residents Associations, and Salford Forum for Refugees and Asylum Seekers undertook Active Citizens training provided by the Trust in 2011.

Cohesion and Inclusion

East Salford has become a vibrant multicultural area with over twenty first languages. It has a large Jewish community and well-established Irish, Moslem and Sikh networks. The growth in migration over the past eight years has added a large East European and Central African dimension. The Trust works to support community cohesion through a programme of events and activities such as the Active Citizens Programme.

Community Research

The Trust has a well developed Community Research model based on training local people as researchers and experts in their own area. It undertakes commissions from a number of bodies and has produced reports on :

  • Child care and family needs
  • Barriers to Learning
  • Community Enterprise
  • Regeneration
  • Community Leadership
  • Impact of Migration on Services
  • Community cohesion in a new mixed tenure housing development
